Information

Seed Savers/Seed Libraries

We currently have 34 seed libraries in several neighbourhoods around Vancouver.  (See list below.) Some are accessible during regular operating hours, and some are accessible during workshops and other activities.

We run Seed Saving workshops, save seeds from our Collaborative Gardens in West Point Grey and the West End, make seed donations to community and school gardens and other seed libraries, and support efforts to increase seed sovereignty.

If you'd like to get involved, please contact seedsaving@villagevancouver.org.

Peter and I went to the Seed savers garden forum yesterday and Ross presented an idea to have a seed library, where people could check out seeds to give them a try. In return they would be asked to grow out the seed and return new viable seed to the library.  Nifty idea.  Still wrapping my head around how this might work.

Hi everyone,

At Dan Jason's talk last night (Friday), Emily brought up the CETA agreement which could mean the end of farmer's rights to save seed. Here's some more information:

Hi everyone,

The Cedar Cottage Seed Saving Collective had a very successful first meeting, and if anyone is interested in a run-down of the meeting, please let me know. It's pretty long so I don't want to post it in full here, but I can send it as a message to anyone who wants to take a look.

Cheers

Robin
