Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities
VV is proud to deliver 7 main activity categories as a part of the CFR program.
The annual festival within our three neighbourhood food networks (Westside, Marpole Oakridge, and Fairview False Creek South) to promote fun and hands-on way to bring Vancouverites together to build social connectedness, skills, experience and knowledge essential to Community Food Resilience, while celebrating food traditions, local food systems, permaculture principles, and ecology.
The initiative to build small (6-7 litre), lightweight, easy-to-assemble DIY Planter Box Kits for small space gardening. It makes gardening and growing food, herbs, and pollinator attractants accessible to those without access to traditional outdoor garden space.
In recognition of the inaccessibility of private gardens, the gardening program enables individuals to access the social, mental, emotional, physical and other benefits of gardening in a community space. Found in 9 locations across Vancouver.
A project created under the Greenest City Grant from the City of Vancouver, it allows people to enjoy the permaculture garden sites in Kitsilano and adjoining Westside communities.
Seed Libraries and Seed Literacy
Located across Vancouver, seed libraries allow individuals to gain greater access to planting their own seeds through access to free seed packets, while seed literacy helps individuals understand how to use and promote further growth and knowledge about seeds.
As a part of further food knowledge promotion, many workshops, rooted in food and gardening, are offered to Vancouver residents through the VRAC website. These offer people the opportunity to learn more about how they can create a more sustainable world.
These networks provide the location and collaboration of Vancouver programs and allow the opportunity for VV to have a CFR program. It provides VV with the space to bring more initiatives to Vancouver’s West End and Vancouver’s Westside.
