- There's a saying that "Transition is not a spectator sport". It's true! Village Vancouver runs on people power, and engaging in activities and projects together helps us accomplish more. Which groups, networks, neighbourhood villages, or projects do you think you might be interested in getting involved with? And what knowledge, skills, resources or other assets can you bring to the mix? (Don't be bashful!)
- I'm working on a crown land tenure application on a decommissioned gravel pit in coquitlam, to build an Earthship community& training academy. but i want the land to be held in trust by a non profit. member groups of non profit org's all pulled together into one intentional community
- What would you like to see improved in Vancouver or in your community regarding sustainability or resiliency? Do you have an idea for a new Transition project or activity?
- intentional earthship community and training academy. 200 lots @5k will raise 1 million for construction of the academy and community structures.

- the general idea is to take a 75 acre gravel pit, subdivide it into 200 quarter acre lots. Sell the lots with a membership into a non profit for 5-10 thousand each. the funds are then used to build a biotecture training academy and residential community housing the community then acts as a diverse social enterprise. the construction academy raises funds through seminars workshops,etc. completed Earthships could be entered into a rental pool to generate more construction funds, etc. actual construction is done by volunteer , along with academy students,instructors, apprentices etc.
Earthships, in case you aren't aware of the technology, are independent autonomous structures that collect & filter their own water, treat their own sewage, grow their own food, and control their own temperature, without any fuel or energy. Truly carbon zero, and have virtually zero operating cost ( no gas bill, no hydro bill)unlike traditional structures that are expensive to operate and maintain.

I am a Father of four, we are a single income family, and while we might not be considered homeless, like those currently living on the street, we're only a couple paychecks removed.
When we start building earthships that provide all the basic needs for survival, that's when we begin to truly end homelessness and free humanity.

One very BIG WOW! Your heart and intentions are everything to which Transition speaks. We all need to get to the place you are, and with the understanding you have. It is irony that a gravel pit that likely drew down a critical aquifer in the area could be the site of such regenerative spirit and a truly sustainable community. It is a real give-back to Nature.
Village Vancouver has supported and collaborated with the Yarrow Ecovillage in Abbotsford, but has never helped to take on anything this serious. However, we need to, and look forward to providing whatever support from our 3,000 members that we can provide.
