Aberthau Community EcoArt and Permaculture Garden
Found in the West Point Grey neighbourhood, Village Vancouver manages the whole garden site, which includes a pre-school garden space, artists’ garden space, vertical garden, herb spiral, and hugelkultur (a traditional way of building a garden bed from decomposing branches and wood debris). As with all VV plots, the Aberthau Garden is sustained through the collaboration of volunteers.
Registrations to participate as a volunteer are available HERE or on the Vancouver Recreation Active Communities website.
Cottonwood Community Garden
Located in the southeast side of Strathcona Park, Village Vancouver occupies four unique plots to grow a mix of native and non-native plants, including annuals and perennials, pollinator attractants, veggies, herbs and fruits. One of the plots was partially transformed into an experimental syntropic farming garden in summer 2023, another plot was expanded by 70% in 2024, and all the VV plots are presently included in the Cottonwood Garden audio tour. As with all VV plots, the Cottonwood Garden is sustained through the collaboration of volunteers.
Opportunities to volunteer at this garden vary, please contact commmunitygardening@villagevancouver.org or ross@villagevancouver.org for more information.
Green Streets Garden
As a part of the City of Vancouver's Green Streets program, Village Vancouver maintains the garden near Broadway in Kitsilano, focused on mostly growing native plants As with all VV plots, the Garden Streets Garden is sustained through the collaboration of volunteers.
If you are interested in volunteering for this garden, please contact commmunitygardening@villagevancouver.org or ross@villagevancouver.org for more information.
Kitsilano Community Centre Collaborative Garden
Situated west of Connaught Park, this garden is a beautiful green space to educate and inspire community through collaborative learning, growing and sharing. During 2025, the Community Centre replaced the old wooden raised beds with six aluminum ones to further provide space to grow herbs, pollinator-friendly flowers, and fruit-bearing shrubs and trees. As with all VV plots, the Kitsilano Garden is sustained through the collaboration of volunteers.
Registrations to participate as a volunteer are available HERE or on the Vancouver Recreation Active Communities website.
McBride Park Vertical Garden
With a major expansion project through the installation of a drip irrigation system, McBride Park on West 4th Avenue in Kitsilano houses Village Vancouver's vertical garden. This garden now hold 197 pouches, with over 100 from the last two years, despite moving the gardens, in 2025, to continue the opportunity to expand the native plant-focused garden. Although the Vancouver Parks Board has recently added signage describing the garden, we may be moving the garden to another location in the park, or an entirely new location. As with all VV plots, the Garden Streets Garden is sustained through the collaboration of volunteers.
If you are interested in volunteering for this garden, please contact commmunitygardening@villagevancouver.org or ross@villagevancouver.org for more information.
Robson Community Garden
Found on the West End neighbourhood of Downtown Vancouver, Village Vancouver contributes to the temporary garden on Robson through 9 garden boxes. This garden also operates as a joint project with the West End Neighbourhood Food Network.

Here is our original proposal for a new community collaborative garden in Riley Park near Little Mountain Neighbourhood House. First proposed by a Villager living just a half block away, this was picked up as a project by a local permaculture class, adopted by a board member of Little Mountain Neighbourhood House, and remains tied up in an application process with the City of Vancouver.
Some day. Some way.
