Winter Harvests from Small Spaces

Learn to grow healthy food year-round in containers, community gardens, backyards, rooftops and more.

Students will learn about:
site assessment for winter gardens
basic winter gardening considerations
common garden pests
how and when to harvest food

Students will get hands-on experience with:
selecting food plants for small space production
sowing seeds for winter production
transplanting seeds

Instructor: Dr. Tara Moreau
Tara is co-chair of the SPEC Food Committee and founder of the Urban Farmer Field School. She is also Associate Director, Sustainability and Community Programs at the UBC Botanical Garden. She holds a PhD in plant science and was a postdoctoral fellow with the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions. Tara is consultant with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and serves at the Co-Chair of the Vancouver Food Policy Council.
