Event Description

A day of dialogue, sharing ideas and experience, and connecting with a wide range of activists.

We live in a world that could be sustainable, with a good quallity of life for all of humanity on a planet that is rich in diversity. Human skill, knowledge and ingenuity are astounding. We live on a planet bathed in free energy from the sun with remarkable bio-diversity, landscapes and ecosystems.

And yet, we live in a world plagued with war, hunger, misery, inequality and an environment rapidly being damaged - even destroyed. Why?

Join us for a day exploring the roots of inequality and the unsustainable way the world is today. We will discuss ideas for a better alternative society.

The day will bring together a diversity of people involved in the environment, unions, social justice and co-ops to network, share ideas and experience and find common ground.

There will be roundtables on:

- The Myths of the "Economy"
- Needed: Fundamental and System Transformation
- Building the Real Changes

Presenters include: Karen Cooling (CEP), Kathryn Cholette (Village Vancouver), Bill Hopwood (Raise the Rates), Paul Finch (BCGEU), Alexandra Henao (Agricultural Workers Alliance) & Jack Hall (Kids for Climate Action).

9:30 am Opening Speaker: John Millar (Chair of First Call: BC Child and Youth Advocacy Coalition) on "Inequality: Bad for You, Your Children, Society and the Environment"

430 pm "Movements Make Change"
.

Hello, close to the heart topics. I'm and independent ethographic filmaker committed to promoting holistic values inherent to indigenous cultures and spiritual traditions around the world. Values which I believe are missing from capitalist culture. I have two films which portray how these values are understood, socialized and celebrated in Japan via Shintoism. Secondly in Kenya via the Eco-village social model applied to a rural Luo sustenance farming culture.

If you are interested in showing either of these 30 min. long films, please do be in touch.
