Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

Hi,

I know there's been previous posts about these items and I have been in contact with some people. I need the following items for my girls and will be procuring them from others here or going to the store for them. I will be in Maple Ridge this weekend, am thinking there's got to be a farm/feed store around there? (Suggestions?)

-Straw or hay (or both, a bale). (I missed the boat on Jean's last order)

-Food-grade DE (emailed Laura).

-Organic food. The girls aren't too into the 'Otter Feed' I got last time (they prefer something chunkier), but they'll eat it. (The Otter Feed seems to be more of a mash type food).

So... anyone else running low on supplies? (or has some on hand in Vancouver?) Let me know I'm thinking I'll probably have to go to a feed & farm type store to get a couple bales of hay/straw anyway so I can probably pick up a few things for others if needed.

Please let me know by Thursday (St. Patties Day) if you have or need any of the above. Also, as noted, I could use suggestions on where to go.

Thanks,

Alyssa

Hi Alyssa,

I don't yet have my birds but am hoping to sometime in April/May and I guess I will need bedding and feed as well!  Ideally organic layer pellets, but open to suggestions!  I have no idea how much I will need (hoping to have 3 birds). Also no rush if it doesn't work out!

Cheers,

-Kristi

Feed & straw co-op  -

Our next order will be due April 3rd for delivery that Thursday, April 7th. We usually order layer mash, but if there is a demand for pellets, we can look into it. I think the pellets are just mash mushed into shape, but I'm not sure. The feed and straw we do get is both organic.

Alyssa, I have a bale of straw I could part with if you need it sooner than the 7th. It has been in my greenhouse over winter, so may be a bit damp on one side. I tend to make sure I have a full pantry, so I could part with one bag of layer mash as well. I also have some oats for sprouting to give to the girls as treats.

In Maple Ridge, I only know of the Otter Co-op, but in Surrey and Cloverdale there are quite a few feed stores, near the Cloverdale Rodeo(?) grounds.

Kristi, our three hens go through about one bag of feed per month. And they lay, my how they lay!Kristi, I am happy to add you to the email list for the co-op.

Alyssa, email me off list and let me know if you want to come by and pick this stuff up.

Cheers, Jean

I still have quite  a bit of DE. Let me know if you want some. Best - Laura.

Sounds like I can get everything I need without a special trip to the store/co-op.

Yes, pellets are just mash compressed into shape. I previously had food with big chunks of grains in it, but I don't think I'll be able to get that here. The girls will just have to learn to like it.

Thanks everyone!

Yes, that would be great. If you send me a 'message' it will come to my email.
