Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

Hi all,

Sorry I've been more present by my absence the last little while. My mother has been in hospital for the past several weeks and a lot of my life has been pushed to the back burner as a result. I'm getting back into the swing of things as my mom slowly improves, and hope to rejoin the potlucks soon! (Can't this month due to a previous work commitment that evening...)

Meanwhile, I got a notice in the mail about an interesting initiative called "Neighbor Week". I think it originates in the U.S. but the concept is certainly consistent with what we're trying to do. Here is the email, with links to various web pages on their site. I'd love to talk with anyone who's interested in following up on any of these ideas.

Cheers,
Avril

Neighbor Week, June 19th-30th, or this Summer

Dear Friends:

The 5th Annual Get to Know Your Neighbor Week (June 19th to 30th) is fast approaching. Consider doing some activity: from the very simple, for example, saying hello to a neighbor you don't know; do an easy potluck at your home and invite your neighbors; or, do a block party. Can't do it during those times---do an activity sometime this Summer.

You can even register your events.

Also, we have a whole range of activity suggestions if you want to "Weave" your immediate streets and even "Weave" your whole city in an ongoing fashion.
