Village Vancouver

Vancouver's Leader in Transition toward Strong, Resilient, Complete Communities

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to organize a new straw buying co-op to get chicken bedding to East Van. Of course, it is also fall mulching season.

Cost would be $9 - $12/bale (depending how many get ordered) and it would be delivered to ~23rd & Main on a Friday. It would have to be picked up on Friday evening or Saturday during the day.

Please respond with how many bales you'd be interested in. This could happen as early as this weekend, but might get pushed out to the 28-29th or even the first weekend in November if people can't swing Halloween weekend.

Thanks,

Alyssa

Hi everyone, final price is $10/bale and pickup is at 4th & Woodland (~Commercial-Broadway). They will be available starting Tuesday Nov. 8 until Saturday Nov. 12. Let me know if I should reserve one (or more) for you.

Hi Alyssa

I am obviously too late for this but interested in your next run, And also how did it go?

Mary Steeves

Hi Mary,
For some reason I just saw your reply! It went well. It got delayed a lot, and there was some initial confusion about what the final price would be, but it turned out well.

There is a young guy selling straw on VV now. The first batch I got was very short pieces - but I suppose it doesn't really matter for bedding, and could even be an advantage.

Alyssa

Hi Alyssa.
I guess you see that my entry was made in 2011!!

I did see that! Don't know how I missed it last year!

I got enough straw this year from Halloween decorations...for my plots at cottonwood community garden. However I am starting to spread the word that someone here might be selling.
What is his name or contact? Where and how much do you garden/farm?
Mary
You have chickens?

Hi Mary, I garden in East Van. Of course I have chickens! Currently 4 hens. Garden a plot or two, mostly garlic and greens. Someone selling straw? Might be a lot of interest there!

you put the following on your reply to me

"There is a young guy selling straw on VV now. The first batch I got was very short pieces - but I suppose it doesn't really matter for bedding, and could even be an advantage."

So I am asking for contact information for him.

Mary
