Meet "Earth's Lawyer", Polly Higgins. Award-winning author of Eradicating Ecocide, barrister and international environmental lawyer, Polly proposed to the U.N. in April 2010 that a law of Ecocide be classed as a 5th international crime against Peace alongside Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity, Crimes of Aggression and War Crimes.
Ecocide is defined as the mass "damage, destruction to or loss of ecosystems of a given territory, whether by human agency or by other causes, to such an extent that peaceful enjoyment by the inhabitants of that territory has been severely diminished."
In a rare visit to Vancouver, en route to a U.S. tour, Polly will speak (and PowerPoint) about the campaign to make ecocide a crime. She seeks to meet with faith, environmental, youth, business, legal, political leaders, civil society, and all who are interested to make Earth law at the June UN Rio+20 Earth Summit (http://www.uncsd2012.org/rio20/index.html).
This event is free, but donations are welcome and much needed. Please join us!
