SUMMARY:W2 Speaks at City Hall!
DESCRIPTION:City Finance & Services meeting to be held on Wednesday, J
 anuary 30, 2013, at 9:30 am.\nThis is a call out to the community!\nMe
et us at City Hall on Wednesday morning to support W2, a vital communi
ty asset, and protection of Vancouver's cultural spaces.\nJoin our dem
and for access and inclusion in this city. Tell Council to stop leavin
g inner-city artists, residents and indigenous organizations out in th
e cold.\nWe've been steadfast in our resolve to help the city understa
nd that W2 belongs to the community that built it, sending requests an
d working at solutions, raising awareness, and getting ready to talk i
t out.\nThe city is ready to hear what we've got to say. Some speakers
have already registered and there are opportunities for more, EVERY v
oice counts and will help to keep the pressure on Council; give us bac
k the space - while we restructure W2.\nAfter consultation with indivi
duals and groups who have used and depended on the W2 amenity, the W2
community and its supporters are joining together with the following d
emands.\n1.Stop the eviction of W2. Continue negotiation of fair leas
e terms with democratic representation from the W2 community.\n2.Waive
the amenity fee. W2 is the only community-access space in the $400 m
illion Woodward’s development. The amenity should not be evicted in
its first year for not paying the developer’s $85,000 amenity fee.\n
3.Open the building now as the community works on a renewed model with
the City and supporters. Provide much-needed public access to the sp
ace.\n++++++++++++++++++++\nThe speakers list is full but presence of
the community will speak loud and clear. We anticipate the motion will
dealt with no earlier than 10am, so show up and support the speakers.
Now is the time. Tell your friends and let's really make this one cou
nt.\nHere is a link to the motion to which we are requesting the publi
c be heard (the motion is being considered on Tuesday's Regular Counci
l Meeting, at which they will decide to schedule a public hearing on W
