, it may be helpful for you to also bring: - a note taking device \n-
weather appropriate clothing (rain or shine)\n- work gloves\n- a wate
rbottle\n- a snack you wouldn’t mind sharing with others (if bringin
g a potluck snack - please label) \n__________________\nWhat to exchan
ge:\nBy putting on these workshops, we are creating a space for us to
share with members of our community skills and knowledge we’ve picke
d up along the way. Both of us have full-time jobs and many part-time
commitments, but we’re taking steps to facilitate a type of communit
y exchange to build the economy we want to live in.\nIn doing so, we h
ope everyone who shows up enjoys and positive experience, and walks aw
ay having learned something new. If that’s the case, we ask you to p
lease make a donation of whatever you feel is appropriate to your situ
 ation.\nSuggested donations - - $20 +\n- A timeshare (offer to help u
s out for a while!) \n- A useful skillshare (teach us something new!)
\n- We will consider any barter or alternative economics approach\n- I
mmortality in song\nWe're set up with Square mobile credit card reader
so, if don't have cash, you can swipe. Although 2% of transaction goe
s to Square, it adds convenience and seems to work well. _____________
_____\nWhat is Caterpillar Commons:\nCaterpillar Commons is a project
undertaken by tenants in a rental property in Burnaby. By unlearning a
nd rewilding we have seen the potential to unlock in this under-utiliz
ed urban undulation.\nThis project has strengthened our connection to
the bioregion and seasons, while offering valuable opportunities to re
-skill ourselves. In a city where finding access or tenure to begin pu
tting down roots can be a challenge, this is a real-life example of wh
at can be achieved as a renter with a bit of time, a bit of scrounging
and a bit of uncertainty and a lot of effort!\nReally, Caterpillar Co
mmons is where an understory permie, an earthship captain and a travel
ling circus performer find home. We’re exploring the intersections o
f the social, built, and natural environments. __________________\nWh
y are we teaching:\nWe want to learn the skills it takes to provide fo
r ourselves by producing as much of what we consume as possible. We wa
nt to reduce our footprint, or if possible create a regenerative one.
We want to step out of exploitative forms of capitalism and participat
e in creating a new economy. So we’re experimenting with different t
hings in different places and have gained some knowledge that might be
helpful to others starting their own experiments.\n\nFor more informa
