SUMMARY:Sustainable Living & Planning Rally
DESCRIPTION:Sustainable Living = Greener Cities\n\n\n\nSustainable Liv
ing Rally\nSponsored by The Sierra Club of Canada\n\n\nAbbotsford, BC\
 n\nSaturday September 18, 2010 – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.\nEagle Mountain Pa
rk - 2570 Eagle Mountain Way\n*This event is family friendly.*\n\nSust
ainable living is performing our day-to-day routines in way that leave
s natural resources for future generations. Sustainable planning allow
s development that meets the needs of the present yet has the least im
pact by protecting reasonable portions of green space and habitat for
wildlife to thrive. For example, BC is situated on the Pacific Flyway
and has a local and international responsibility to protect migratory
birds - without sustainable living & planning the number of migratory
birds on the species at risk list will continue to grow.\n\nTopics: Su
stainable Being (Marlisa Power) Livable Neighborhoods, (Dr. Tracy Lyst
er, citizens against urban sprawl society (CAUSS) Minimizing Your Wast
e/Urban Transit (John Vissers, Zerowaste & Rail for the Valley) Agricu
ltural Land Reserve & Mining (Lynn Perrin, Director of the Farmland Le
ague, Abbotsford) The Sustainable Past (Ray Silver, Ancestral Chief, S
umas First Nation)\n\nMunicipal Governments in BC are struggling to ba
lance demands of development with sustainable planning. Sustainable pl
anning promotes residential and commercial developments that allow pop
ulations to increase while retaining neighbourhood character (feeling
& safety) without destroying critical green spaces and wildlife habita
 t. Green spaces provide free and without asking – wildlife habitat,
air purification, soil retention, oxygen, temperature moderation and p
laces to unwind and reconnect with the earth and ourselves.\n\n\n\nSus
tainable Living = Greener Cities\n\nUnable to attend? Send Abbotsford
Mayor George Peary & City Council a note (councilmembers@abbotsford.ca
cc: marlisa@telus.net) asking for sustainable planning. Ask Council t
o demonstrate their commitment by placing a moratorium on residential
development until Eagle Mountain and Falcon Ridge developments; which
promised over 600 multi-family residences, are complete. This will sav
e acres of green spaces.\n\nFor more information visit http://villagev
