 d for regionally produced food has created a huge opportunity for thos
 e who want to become growers and has expanded possibilities for those 
 who are already farming.\nJoin veteran farmers Michael Ableman and Jos
 h Volk for a two-day intensive workshop on growing fruits and vegetabl
 es for market. The first part of the workshop will focus on production
 , from soil fertility and preparation, to seed selection and propagati
 on, through harvest and post-harvest. The second part of the workshop 
 will be devoted entirely to marketing, with sessions on region specifi
 c market planning, farmers’ markets, CSA, displays, and restaurant a
 nd wholesale sales. This is a nuts and bolts workshop which will cover
  a range of both perennial and annual crops and enable participants to
  learn some of the specific techniques and strategies of a successful 
 market farmer.\nMichael Ableman is a farmer, writer, and photographer.
  He is the author of three books: From the Good Earth: A celebration o
 f growing food around the world; On Good Land: The autobiography of an
  urban farm; and Fields of Plenty: A farmer’s journey in search of r
 eal food and the people who grow it. He is the founder and executive d
 irector emeritus of the Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Garde
 ns, one of the oldest and most diverse organic farms in southern Calif
 ornia, where he farmed for 20 years. Michael lectures extensively in C
 anada, the U.S. and Europe, and he is the co-director of the SOLEfood 
 urban agriculture project in Vancouver. He lives and farms at Foxglove
  Farm, where he also directs the Center for Arts, Ecology and Agricult

  immersed in the study and practice of vegetable farming in the Northe
 ast, desert Southwest, California and the Pacific Northwest for over 2
 0 years. He helped to develop and manage the very successful Sauvie Is
 land Organics CSA, an intensive 20-acre vegetable farm outside of Port
 land, Oregon where he trained over 20 apprentices. Along with farming,
