SUMMARY:Earthen Plaster and Clay Wall Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Light clay infill walls appear in several regions and trad
 itions. They can be incorporated into cob, straw bale, and conventiona
 l construction. A light clay wall provides insulation and comfort. Thi
 s system is being employed on the Commons Building at One United Resou
 rce (OUR) Ecovillage on Vancouver island to meet the Living Building C
 hallenge requirements.\nMaterials for clay walls and plasters are typi
 cally renewable, local and non-toxic. They are also inexpensive. Sever
 al permitted buildings of this kind exist on Vancouver Island and in t
 he climate-region. Our workshop’s project building has a hybrid of l
 ight clay walls and conventional walls. Both wall types will recieve a
 n earthen plaster. A great foundation to understanding raw clay as a b
 uilding material\n\n\nSite soils used for clay wall systems and plaste
 rs Simple methods to evaluate clay-soil and mixtures\nHands-on experie
 nce of wall and plaster practices\nSafe, fun and respectful learning e
 nvironment\n\n\nBeginning Friday evening with theory and a technical o
