SUMMARY:Crude Oil Tankers in Burrard Inlet: The Risk
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This event is postponed. New date will be posted her
e once determined.\n\nCurrently, an average of two oil tankers each we
ek\ncarries up to 700,000 barrels of Alberta Tar Sands\ncrude oil thro
ugh the port of Vancouver. The\nindustry's plan is to increase the cap
acity to 10 tankers\nper week. Each of these tankers carry's 3‐times
the oil\nspilled by the Exxon Valdez. What is the risk of an oil\nspi
ll in Burrard Inlet or Georgia Strait? Are we\nprepared? Can we preven
t it? An alliance of\nfishermen and concerned citizens are challenging
the\noil industry and attempting to preserve the marine\nenvironments
in BC waters. They are planning a flotilla\nfor the fall. This presen
tation will explain the risks and\nthe plan to prevent a catastrophe.\
