SUMMARY:A First Course in Permaculture Beekeeping
DESCRIPTION:Permaculture is an integrated design process\nwith a focus
on positive solutions using natural systems as inspiration for creati
ng sustainable\nurban agricultural environments. Permaculture beekeepi
ng takes permaculture deeper and\nfurther into ecological design by em
phasizing\nthe importance of bees in our urban edible landscapes. In p
artnership with plants bees are\nthe foundation of life on this planet
. This brief course covers the basics of permaculture design, how bees
are essential to any sustainable system, and how to design with bees
and sustainability in mind. No previous knowledge or experience of per
maculture or bees is necessary to enjoy and learn from this class.\nDa

n\nThe Bee School\nThe philosophy of The Bee School is based on\nsound
principles of sustainable, scientific and\nethical apiary management.
Our goal is to\ntrain a new generation of small-scale urban\nand comm
ercial beekeepers prepared to face\nthe challenges and rewards of the
21st Century.\n\nWe live in an age of unprecedented global\nchange. Ol
d modalities and paradigms need to\nbe updated. Just as the resilience
of our\necosystem has to be maintained and encouraged,\nwe as beekeep
ers and urban residents need to\ngrow into a more flexible and respons
ive way\nof being; especially in light of honey and native\nbee losses
.\n\nClasses and workshops at The Bee School\ncombine the very latest
knowledge, skills and\ntechniques in native and honeybee landscape\nde
sign and management while keeping alive\nthe knowledge and traditions
of the ancient art\nof beekeeping.\n\nOur intention is to engage the p
ublic in doing\nmore to protect and preserve bee populations\nthrough
courses and workshops that are as\naffordable and accessible as possib
le.\n\nAll classes provide theory with ample\nopportunities for hands
on practice. Sessions\nare relaxed emphasizing the enjoyment and\nappr
eciation of bees while learning in an\ninclusive environment.\n\nFor m
