 C ALTERNATIVES\n\n\nWe believe the world economy may well be in a stat
 e of collapse. Rather than standing idly by, we need to consider our o
 ptions. This neighbourhood workshop will address the current economic 
 systemâ€™s ills. Our four invited speakers will discuss some of the ma
 ny alternatives that are now being proposed.\n\nThe sessions will take
  place on Five Tuesdays - 7:15 to 9:30 pm - starting September 28, 201
 0, in the Mosaic Settlement Services meeting room, 1720 Grant Street, 
 just East of Commercial Drive.\n\n\nTo register, contact communityawar

 ister on the first night BUT space is limited and response to the init
 ial announcement has been very strong. Total cost is $15.00 per indivi
 dual.\n\n\nAt the first meeting, we will approach the current economic
  system as a pathologist would in trying to determine the cause of dea
 th; we can then move into a discussion of alternatives. We want to be 
 informed by the first session, so that we can be sure that the alterna
 tive economies proposed by our invited speakers address the ills in th
 e present system that are our greatest concerns.\n\n\nSept 28 - Whatâ€
 ™s wrong with the current system?\n\nACA organizers will present their
  views on some of the deepest flaws in the current economic system. Wo
 rkshop participants will be invited to present their own autopsy repor
 ts as well.\n\n\n\nOctober 5 - Degrowth as an alternative - Conrad Sch
 midt\n\nConrad Schmidt is the founder of the Work Less Party and organ
 izer of the First North American Conference on Degrowth. He asserts: â
 €ś The evidence is overwhelming that unlimited industrial growth is no
  longer possible. Our challenge is to shrinkâ€¦ the economy without cr
 eating massive unemployment and poverty.â€ť He will discuss his progra
 m for â€śEfficiency Shiftingâ€ť.\n\n\n\nOctober 12 - The Cooperative S
 ystem â€“ John Restakis\n\nJohn Restakis is the Executive Director of 
 the B.C. Co-Operative Association. He will address the role of Co-oper
 atives in a new economy.\n\n\n\nOctober 19 â€“ Canadian Centre For Pol
 icy Alternatives â€“ Marc Lee\n\nMarc Lee is CCPA senior economist and
  chair of The Progressive Economic Forum. He will present the CCPA per
 spective on alternatives.\n\nOctober 26th â€“ Village Vancouver â€“ Ro
